William T. McGowin, IV
Mr. McGowin has practiced law in Birmingham and Mobile for over 20 years. He practices primarily in the areas of taxation, estate and business planning, probate, and corporate and business law. Mr. McGowin represents numerous individuals and small to medium sized businesses. Mr. McGowin is a frequent speaker at various tax, estate planning and business planning seminars. His areas of practice include the following:
• Estate Planning and Probate: Advising clients on estate planning, business succession planning, and related matters.
• Corporate Formation and Operations: Forming corporations, limited liability companies and similar entities, mergers and acquisitions, dissolution and distribution from business entities, and advising clients on choice of entity issues.
• Advising clients on various tax issues, tax planning, and similar matters. Forming and advising tax exempt entities, including obtaining and maintaining tax exempt status, and advising clients on tax issues unique to tax exempt entities (including prohibited transactions and unrelated business income issues).
• Representing clients in tax controversies before various taxing authorities and in court, including the Internal Revenue Service, United States Tax Court, the Alabama Department of Revenue, and local revenue departments.
